Students Mobilise to Save Students’ Union Jobs

Students have been mobilising over the last few days to save jobs in the Student’s Union. They are opposed to the decision made by the Union Management Board to outsource security staff jobs in the SU to private security firm G4S.

Students were stationed throughout the Union building and the University campus on Monday 30April with a petition calling for a referendum to be held over the decision to outsource SU jobs to an external provider. The petition received massive support from the student body with over 1200 signatures being acquired.

The petition was presented to Dominic Doherty (Deputy Director at QUBSU) by a

number of students including former VP Campaigns and Communications Officer, Fiona Kidd. The petition has since been accepted and a referendum will be held over the decision on Thursday 9 May.
